Tara McFarland

Originally from Salmon, Idaho, Tara holds a Master’s Degree in Dance Science from City University of London (Laban) and a Bachelor’s of Science in Dance from the University of Idaho. She has taught jazz, ballet, contemporary, and hip hop styles for over 15 years. She is currently a professional company member with Bare Bait Dance Company and teaches at On Center Performing Arts and the Downtown Dance Collective. She has danced professionally in Seattle and Denver with Louder than Words Dancetheatre, Evolving Doors Dance, and Relay Dance Collective as well as appeared as a guest performer with 3rd Law Dance/Theatre, Converge Dance Festival, and the Great American Brew Fest. She has acted as Artistic Director for the Fusion B-Boyz Crew, the Kinetic Arts Performance Team, and co-directed The Westwoods Center of Performing Arts Youth Ballet Company. In her pre-professional years, she was her high school dance team’s co-captain, a member of the Just for Kix National Performance Team, the Arizona State University Dancing Devils Dance Team, the Mills College Repertory Company (under Molissa Fenley), the University of Idaho Dance Theatre, and a recipient of the Heather Haybeck Dance Award, Dancer of the Year, Firecracker Award, UDA All Star, and a UofI Dance-Bookstore Scholarship Recipient. Tara is currently a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine & Science, Seattle Dance & Performing Arts Medicine, and is a steering committee member of Dance Wire’s Healthy Dancer Network of Portland. She strives to provide informed, science-based approaches to dance technique.
