Spring Schedule Reminders

Hello fabulous dancers and parents!

We wanted to take a moment and post some scheduling reminders of upcoming events throughout the remainder of the Spring Semester:

  • There will be classes on President’s Day, February 20th
  • Spring Break is March 20-24th
  • MDAA is in Missoula April 7-9th and our very own Lisa Deer will be the workshop coordinator! This is an amazing time to receive additional education and learn from some top notch dance instructors from around the country. It is held in Missoula only once every two years, so we strongly urge you to take advantage of it this year. Please see a staff member at the studio for more information.
  • OCPA 2017/2018 season Pre-registration is April 14th 4:30-6pm. This is a great time to lock in your dancer’s classes for next year.
  • Picture Week is May 7-12th. More information about picture sign-up is forthcoming. These are great mementos of your dancer’s year and make for wonderful memories in the future.
  • Student Appreciation Day June 10th – There will be the usual fare of food, fun, activities and awards for dancers and their families. Join us!
  • Spring Recital will be June 12th, 13th, 14th, and 16th. This year, we will NOT have a Thursday show. Thursday’s classes will be in the Wednesday show, and Friday will still be ‘The Best Of’ show.

As always, if you have any questions, please call or email us!

New Workshop Series Class!

JOIN US FOR OUR NEW 8 WEEK WORKSHOP SERIES:
AFRO-CUBAN MODERN DANCE TECHNIQUE
Taught by guest artist, Bruno Augusto

$90.00 for the full 8 week session.
January 24th -March 14th

Técnica de la danza moderna Cubana
Also known as
Afro-Cuban Modern Dance Technique

Created by world renown Ramiro Guerra Suarez, this dance technique is meant to train/make the dancer. Elements from Classical Ballet, and North American dance techniques such as Graham, Limón, Humphrey, and Horton are the basis. This technique also incorporates elements from Flamenco, African dances, and Cuban Folklore, all creating a unique melange. Executed to African rhythms and sometimes chanting, it emphasizes tempo, phrasing and syncopation to maximize its performative aspect. Spacial awareness is a permanent requirement, while the focus of the dancer must remain in him or herself.

BRUNO AUGUSTO

Bruno is the Co-Founding Director of Arts & Above. As an art maker, performer, and educator, his body of work consists primarily of dance, music, poetry, and film. Bruno’s works have been presented in the Washington DC metro area, New York City, and the bay area of San Francisco. He has been a professional dancer for 21 years; performing in Cuba, Angola, and throughout the United States, while touring Africa and Europe. Pre Apprentice Jazz Teacher Announcement

Dear Pre Ap Jazz students and families,

As we begin the new semester we wanted to make sure it was clear that Paige Lund is the official instructor for Pre Ap Jazz on Tuesdays at 6:00pm. Although she taught the majority of last semester, we had some inquiries and wanted to clarify. Meagen thoroughly loved teaching this class, but her responsibilities as a Director and manager made it difficult for her to teach as many classes as she started with this year. We are excited and completely trust Paige’s ability to continue with this class.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Lisa Deer

Lost and Found/Costume Measuring Week

Hello there!

I wanted to let you all know that our lost and found is really filling up. If your performer is missing anything, please look in the basket in the lobby this week. There are a couple North Face coats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, shoes, and so much more, so please check it out. There are also a TON of water bottles. If they are yours please take them home.

Also, remember that we are measuring for costumes this week! Every child will get measured, even if they aren’t getting a costume. If they are gone this week, we will measure them in the weeks after Thanksgiving Break, so no worries.

COSTUME PAYMENT DEADLINE: DECEMBER 16TH, 2016. There will be $20 added to all costume fees after that date.

NO CLASSES NEXT WEEK NOVEMBER 21st-25th. Enjoy your break and be safe!

Thanks again for all you do,

On Center Performing Arts

November Announcements

Hello Wonderful Families!

There are notes being passed out this week that give you some information about costumes and measuring week, so look out for those from your student. We will be measuring all students for costumes next week November 14th-18th. Even if you aren’t planning on getting a costume, we still measure everyone in case you change your mind. The instructors will then compare their measurements to the costume size chart, and pick a size for your student.

During Parent Visiting Week, which is December 5th-9th, every parent will approve the size that the teacher picked for them. If you feel like they need to be re-measured, please let the instructor know. If we have to send the costume back for a different size, there is no guarantee that it will be here in time for recital, so we want the right sizes picked. We add about two fingers length to their measurement to allow for some growing room, but if you know they are growing like crazy let us know! If you will be missing class next week, the teacher will be measuring until everyone in the class is measured, even if it takes a few weeks, so no worries.

Another reminder that there are NO CLASSES November 21st-25th for the holiday break!

Parent’s Visiting Week, you will get to come and sit in through one whole class to see what they have been working on! It’s a lot of fun, so don’t miss out! It is December 5th-9th!

Payments continue all the way until June if you are signed up for the monthly installments. If you are not returning for the Spring semester, let us know ASAP so we can stop your payments. If you payed in full for the Fall semester, plan on receiving an invoice for the Spring semester come December, or stop by the dance shop to see what you owe if you would like to pay now. You are more than welcome to set up a payment plan with us for the spring semester also if you are interested.

And last but not least, the costume payment deadline is DECEMBER 16TH! If you pay for costumes after that, there is a $20 fee added to each costume.

As always, let us know if you have any questions or concerns!
Thank you so much,
On Center Performing Arts
