Upcoming Dates and Information

Hi On Center Families!
The end of the year is almost near, and we only have three weeks until recital!! Classes have been working so hard all year and are looking fantastic–we are so excited! Our theme for the show is ‘At the Movies’ so you will recognize a lot of the songs…it is going to be a good time!!

We want to give you a rundown of what the rest of the year will look like. So, please pay attention to all of the detail in this post!

Monday May 29th: There is NO CLASS due to Memorial Day. We hope you can take the time to enjoy the long weekend as well as remember all of the people that have served our country.

June 5th: LOCKERS! If your students have lockers here at the studio, please make sure they empty them on their last class of this week (please take locks home with you). We will take everything left in the lockers to Good Will after recital.

June 10th: STUDENT APPRECIATION DAY!!!! 12pm-4pm, awards ceremony at 2pm! This day is so much fun and we hope you and your families can join us. The theme is ‘Pirates of OCPA’…so as you probably assumed, it is going to be pirate themed! We will have lots of arts and crafts, games, the bouncy house, activities like ‘walking the plank’ and treasure hunts, and lots of yummy food! There is no fee, just come and enjoy yourselves–you won’t regret it!

June 12th, 13th, 14th, and 16th: RECITAL WEEK!!!! Attached to this email is the tech rehearsal schedule, as well as the show order for the evening shows. Tech rehearsals are in the late morning/early afternoon. This gives the performers the opportunity to come to the theater and review their dances on stage with lights before they perform on stage that night. They do not need their costumes for the morning tech rehearsals. Dancers leave the theatre and return at 5:00 for their call time ready to perform (costume and makeup).

We also put out sheets in the lobby for parents that would like to volunteer at the shows. We need help with concessions, selling flowers, ushering, and backstage help. If you are interested in volunteering for these, please write your name on the sheet.

Tech rehearsals and performances are at the Missoula Children’s Theatre 200 N Adams Street.

The studio will be open 12pm-4pm in case you need last minute shoes or tights the week of recital.

Tickets are on sale at tututix.com. You will also be able to purchase them at the door the night of the show if you don’t get them online.

June 17th: OCPA COMPANY AUDITIONS!!! 2pm at On Center! If your child loves performing, if you want your kiddo involved in a positive, uplifting, team activity & if you want to expose your little love to new experiences including travel & education…DON’T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!! OCPA Company performs at many local events including Griz games, we travel to workshops & competitions, and we represent On Center to the community. This year, we will rehearse on Fridays from 4pm-6pm with little to no weekend requirements. We will also be doing many fundraisers throughout the season to cover as many costs as possible!! If you have any questions regarding the audition or requirements, please don’t hesitate to ask!! There are flyers with more details located outside of the dance shop window.

Also, if you are signed up for the automatic payments, then they will stop automatically after June. No need to come in and cancel anything!

This concludes the year! BUT-don’t forget to sign up for summer classes, summer camp, or our summer intensive so you can keep up with all you learned this year! Thank you all so much for everything you do! Please let us know if you have any confusion about anything! We are happy to help!

New Workshop Series Class!

JOIN US FOR OUR NEW 8 WEEK WORKSHOP SERIES:
AFRO-CUBAN MODERN DANCE TECHNIQUE
Taught by guest artist, Bruno Augusto

$90.00 for the full 8 week session.
January 24th -March 14th

TĂ©cnica de la danza moderna Cubana
Also known as
Afro-Cuban Modern Dance Technique

Created by world renown Ramiro Guerra Suarez, this dance technique is meant to train/make the dancer. Elements from Classical Ballet, and North American dance techniques such as Graham, LimĂłn, Humphrey, and Horton are the basis. This technique also incorporates elements from Flamenco, African dances, and Cuban Folklore, all creating a unique melange. Executed to African rhythms and sometimes chanting, it emphasizes tempo, phrasing and syncopation to maximize its performative aspect. Spacial awareness is a permanent requirement, while the focus of the dancer must remain in him or herself.
