Montana Dance Arts Association

I want to send you some information about the upcoming MDAA Fall Workshop in Butte, MT. All OCPA students that are 10 and older are invited to attend. The workshop dates are Oct. 18-20.

This is a great opportunity for our students to work alongside dancers from all around the state, while they learn from dance teachers from around the state and the country! There is a variety of classes to choose from, with varying levels for each class. I’ve attached a schedule to this email. We would love to have On Center represented by as many students as possible, though I realize that October 18th is quickly approaching and that this may be asking a lot from our families.

At this time, On Center is not in a position to act as chaperones for the weekend, so for any student that wishes to attend; registration, transportation, and accommodations must be arranged by the families. We will have staff present at the Workshop for the entire weekend, however, so we can provide support during the days and we are happy to help your student choose the appropriate class levels and offer suggestions about classes they should take.

In addition to the master schedule, I have also attached a hotel list, as there are a couple hotels in Butte that have blocks of rooms reserved at a discounted price. If your student is planning to attend, I strongly encourage they reach out to find other students attending so that perhaps they can be in the same hotel, or carpools can be arranged.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. I am here to help!

December Info

Hello, and Happy Monday!

We hope you are all enjoying the days leading up to the holiday! We would just like to note that this Friday, December 15th 6:30-8:30pm is the Studio Christmas Party!  This is a fundraiser for our company girls to get to their competition and workshops in the spring.  There will be hot coco, cookies, activities, performances, and of course…a Monte Santa! It is $5/person or $20/family of 4+.  If you would like to take advantage of our drop off service, it is $10/child age 7 or older. This means you can drop your child off and go spend the evening however you please!  PLEASE BRING CASH OR CHECK ONLY! Kids are welcome to bring friends, and all families are welcome!  We hope you all take advantage of this fun evening!

If you are wanting a costume for the end of the year recital in June, then the payments are due December 15th.  If you pay after that deadline, the cost will be an extra $20 for shipping/rush fees.  If you have not approved the size of your child’s costume, please meet with their instructor after class this week and approve that. The costumes are no longer posted on the bulletin board, so if you would like to see them, ask the dance shop to show you. We will be ordering them over the winter break and they will start arriving around April. Recital week is June 11th-15th (your child performs on whatever night of the week they have class. For example, Monday classes will perform on Monday June 11th, Tuesday classes June 12th, etc.).

Our winter break will be December 22nd through January 7th.  Classes will resume MONDAY JANUARY 8TH. Let us point out that you are enrolled for the whole year unless you tell us otherwise.  If you aren’t continuing through Spring, please let the office know via email or phone call. Monthly installments will continue being pulled through June and if you paid for the fall semester in full, please have your spring tuition payment in by January 15th.

Thank you all so very much!  We can’t believe the fall semester is already coming to an end! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to our studio!  Hope to see you all Friday!

October Events!

The end of October is upon us!!  We can’t believe how time flies!  Here are a few things to remember in these last couple weeks:

HALLOWEEN WEEK: Starts this WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 25TH (not today).  Students can wear their costumes to class on the 25th, 26th, 30th, and 31st. That is Wednesday and Thursday of this week, and Monday and Tuesday of next week.  Make sure they can move in them because they will be having a normal class.  The last 10-15 minutes they will get to share their treats if they choose to bring some.  Just be aware of the class allergies.  Kids were sent home with papers that informed everyone of those if there is any.

THRILLER: We will be performing Thriller at Southgate Mall on Halloween night.  This year, we are inviting ALL students to participate if they would like to. We will have two mandatory rehearsals: Friday October 27th 4:30-6:30, and Saturday the 28th 10am-11:30am (possibly ending earlier). Students must be at both rehearsals in order to participate in the performance on Tuesday.  They will need to be at the JC Penny court at 6:30pm on the 31st and we will perform at 7pm.  The dance is only about 4 minutes long, so you will be done before 7:30. Come dressed as your scariest zombie (but make sure you can still dance).

If you have any questions, please let us know and we would be happy to help!  We love this time of year and want everyone to be involved!!

Have a ‘BOO’-tiful Day,

Upcoming Dates and Information

Hi On Center Families!
The end of the year is almost near, and we only have three weeks until recital!! Classes have been working so hard all year and are looking fantastic–we are so excited! Our theme for the show is ‘At the Movies’ so you will recognize a lot of the songs…it is going to be a good time!!

We want to give you a rundown of what the rest of the year will look like. So, please pay attention to all of the detail in this post!

Monday May 29th: There is NO CLASS due to Memorial Day. We hope you can take the time to enjoy the long weekend as well as remember all of the people that have served our country.

June 5th: LOCKERS! If your students have lockers here at the studio, please make sure they empty them on their last class of this week (please take locks home with you). We will take everything left in the lockers to Good Will after recital.

June 10th: STUDENT APPRECIATION DAY!!!! 12pm-4pm, awards ceremony at 2pm! This day is so much fun and we hope you and your families can join us. The theme is ‘Pirates of OCPA’…so as you probably assumed, it is going to be pirate themed! We will have lots of arts and crafts, games, the bouncy house, activities like ‘walking the plank’ and treasure hunts, and lots of yummy food! There is no fee, just come and enjoy yourselves–you won’t regret it!

June 12th, 13th, 14th, and 16th: RECITAL WEEK!!!! Attached to this email is the tech rehearsal schedule, as well as the show order for the evening shows. Tech rehearsals are in the late morning/early afternoon. This gives the performers the opportunity to come to the theater and review their dances on stage with lights before they perform on stage that night. They do not need their costumes for the morning tech rehearsals. Dancers leave the theatre and return at 5:00 for their call time ready to perform (costume and makeup).

We also put out sheets in the lobby for parents that would like to volunteer at the shows. We need help with concessions, selling flowers, ushering, and backstage help. If you are interested in volunteering for these, please write your name on the sheet.

Tech rehearsals and performances are at the Missoula Children’s Theatre 200 N Adams Street.

The studio will be open 12pm-4pm in case you need last minute shoes or tights the week of recital.

Tickets are on sale at tututix.com. You will also be able to purchase them at the door the night of the show if you don’t get them online.

June 17th: OCPA COMPANY AUDITIONS!!! 2pm at On Center! If your child loves performing, if you want your kiddo involved in a positive, uplifting, team activity & if you want to expose your little love to new experiences including travel & education…DON’T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!! OCPA Company performs at many local events including Griz games, we travel to workshops & competitions, and we represent On Center to the community. This year, we will rehearse on Fridays from 4pm-6pm with little to no weekend requirements. We will also be doing many fundraisers throughout the season to cover as many costs as possible!! If you have any questions regarding the audition or requirements, please don’t hesitate to ask!! There are flyers with more details located outside of the dance shop window.

Also, if you are signed up for the automatic payments, then they will stop automatically after June. No need to come in and cancel anything!

This concludes the year! BUT-don’t forget to sign up for summer classes, summer camp, or our summer intensive so you can keep up with all you learned this year! Thank you all so much for everything you do! Please let us know if you have any confusion about anything! We are happy to help!

Student Appreciation Day and More!

Hello wonderful On Center Families!

As you know, our year is coming to an end!  All the students have worked so hard for our recital next week and we want to be sure they get rewarded for that.  We hope to see you and your family at our Student Appreciation Day this Saturday, June 11th.  It will be here at On Center from 12:00pm-4:00pm.  The theme is a Luau, so feel free to come in your floweriest outfits!  We will have burgers, hot dogs, and lots of other yummy food and desserts!  Kids can play in the bouncy house, make crafts, do the limbo, and even take a hula class from our studio manager and instructor Josie!  We will be giving out awards at 2:00pm as well.  We hope to see you all there!!! Bring a lawn chair if you have one!

Also, RECITAL IS NEXT WEEK JUNE 13TH-17TH!!! Remember to look at your students tech schedules. This will take place in the afternoon on the day of their class at the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT). If they are in the Best of Show on Friday, be sure to look at the tech schedule for Friday as well. This time on stage gives all students the chance to be on stage and get used to the lights and spacing before they perform for everyone!! All shows Monday through Friday have a call time at 5:00pm for the dancers, and the show starts at 6:00pm.

Recital tickets will stop being sold online the night before the performance you want to purchase for.  For example, Monday’s tickets will stop being sold on Sunday night at 10:00pm, Tuesday’s tickets will stop being sold Monday night at 10:00pm etc. Any tickets you wish to purchase the day of, you can do so at the studio from 12:00pm-4:00pm, or at the doors of MCT at 5:00pm. Also, unfortunately, FRIDAYS SHOW IS SOLD OUT.You are more than welcome to come and wait in the lobby and if people leave, you may fill in their seats.  There are TV’s in the lobby playing video of the show. We are so sorry for this inconvenience.

DVD’s are available to purchase for recital.  Irish Luck Productions films every night, so you get to choose what night you purchase. They are $25 for one, and then $20 for any after that. You can purchase them in the dance shop.

Curtain Up! Company auditions are Saturday June 18th beginning at 2:00pm. Company is a very exciting, and fun opportunity for dancers to perform at various venues throughout the year! They perform at the mall for the Kid’s Fair, Thriller at Halloween, as well as a Christmas performance! They also perform in their own show once a year at MCT, and learn a lot about the stage and professional side of dancing. Dancers should bring a head shot and a resume of all dance/singing/acting experience they have (even if they just started last year, it’s just to give them the experience). Please ask us if you have any further questions about this wonderful opportunity! Below are some videos of girls that were on Company last year!

Thank you so much, and please, don’t hesitate to call or email us with any questions you have!
